WP7 MANGO finally arrives
The longest awaited update to Windows Phone 7 has finally rolled out to the general public. After months of rumours, videos and demos the illustrious 7.5 update (codenamed ‘Mango’) has officially been released and is available to most Windows Phone users to download. Microsoft have released the update in line with their new range of Windows Phones which all come with Mango pre-built also. Users will receive a notification telling them when their update is available but the roll out of the update depends solely on your network provider. Microsoft Purchases Skype (Donegal Post Article 18/05/11)
Last week we saw great speculation in the IT world surrounding talks between Microsoft and Skype. It was revealed on 10th May that Microsoft purchased Skype for a whopping $8.5 Billion – the largest purchase in the history of the company. With news spreading fast of the new acquisition, many technology buffs questioned why Microsoft would decide to purchase Skype at this time. A Brief History of Windows (Donegal Post Article 20/04/11)
In 1975, Bill Gates and Paul Allen set up the partnership which would come to be the IT giant that is Microsoft. From this partnership, technology and the world itself was set to change for the better. Looking back on the accomplishments of the company it is hard to believe that only 30 years ago MS-DOS was first introduced to the world. In 1981, MS-DOS or Microsoft Disk Operating System was the first operating system of Microsoft which allowed users to effectively use their computer using ‘C:’ to help run various commands.
However, it was in 1985 that Microsoft launched their revolutionary operating system ‘Windows 1.0’. Windows 1.0 was the final name decided for their new OS product because it was seen as the best way to describe the boxes or ‘windows’ which with you used the system. Windows 1.0 first introduced to the user applications like Paint, Windows Writer, Notepad and Calculator and even utilised the floppy disk. From 1987 – 1994 Microsoft release Windows 2.0 & 3.0 which offered users new applications like Control Panel, Print Manager, etc. and utilised the development in better graphics for a greater user interface and overall general appearance. Microsoft launches IE9 (SIN 21st March)
On the 14th March, Microsoft finally launched the long awaited update to their signature browser Internet Explorer. Microsoft launched the campaign ‘beauty of the web’ to promote the new browser and allowed various users to download a beta edition of IE9 to allow them to explore the wonders of their new web experience and also work out any kinks or glitches in the program before its official launch.
