The World Wide Web or WWW as we more commonly know it as – turned 20 on the 6^th August 2011. The World Wide Web or W3 Project began back in the late 80’s under Tim Berners-Lee. Berners-Lee developed the project as a way of sharing information through the internet. In 1990 Berners-Lee had developed all the necessary components of the Web as we know it – HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol), HTML (HyperText Markup Language) and the first Web Browser (named WorldWideWeb). With these components and his use of links Berners Lee developed the first ever public website in 1991. The website was a summary of the project and contained a message from Tim Berners-Lee on 6^thAugust stating that the “World Wide Web Project aims to allow links to information anywhere” and also “Collaborators welcome!” Read the rest of this entry →
