Adobe Abandons Flash

In a move long predicted by Steve Jobs, Adobe admits defeat to HTML5 and will cease development of its Flash player for mobile devices. On Wednesday 9thNovember, Adobe confirmed the rumours that they will no longer develop their Flash player for mobile browsers. The news comes as part of a shakeup at Adobe which will see the company scale back on the development of some products and even consider leasing software in a bid to change the company’s current situation. The news however comes as no surprise to Apple – Jobs since the first launch of the iPhone in 2007 stated that, “Flash was created during the PC era – for PCs and mice.” Jobs decided that the future of mobile browsing lay in HTML5 which it seems to have taken Adobe years to agree with and bow down in defeat. The iPhone 4S which has taken the smartphone market by storm saw a huge demand with the handset pre-ordered in its millions for many excited new users. Now that some time has passed since the launch we take a look at the latest Apple product that has revolutionised the way in which we use our phone. Taking the first bite out of Android’s Ice Cream Sandwich

On the 19th October, Google previewed their latest OS update since the 2011 ‘Honeycomb’ to their Android devices. Android’s latest OS 4.0 (codenamed ‘Ice Cream Sandwich’) sees the emphasis now finally placed on user functionality. There are various new features to the OS which Google now boasts supports both their tablet and smartphone devices using the same software. Google are currently top of the smartphone market in the US but with Apple’s iPhone 4S and iOS5 receiving much praise there are fears that Google’s Android could lose out to their more prestigious rival. The latest update to the Android OS sees a mixture of features which are familiar to other devices like

Phone Wars–Who will come out on top?

The last few weeks have seen a lot of change in the phone market. With the release of Apple’s latest device – iPhone 4S, Windows Phone and Mango and of course the latest Samsung devices due to receive patent battles with Apple. Along with various new devices and updates there has been a shift in public opinion of a particular brand of phone – the infamous Blackberry. Recently RIM (Blackberry manufacturers) suffered a great loss when the Blackberry network crashed with users unable to use Facebook, BBM (Blackberry Messenger) or even access the internet. Users took to every social network available to complain of the outage with many deciding to abandon the device in pursuit of a more reliable handset. The network outage seem to mainly effect Pay as You Go Blackberry users with some reporting that their services did not return for more than 3 or so days of outage. RIM were quick to comment and apologise for the issue and much like the Sony PSN crash, RIM have decided to release premium Apps to their users in attempt to make up for the mess and annoyance they caused to many a Blackberry user. WP7 MANGO finally arrives

The longest awaited update to Windows Phone 7 has finally rolled out to the general public. After months of rumours, videos and demos the illustrious 7.5 update (codenamed ‘Mango’) has officially been released and is available to most Windows Phone users to download. Microsoft have released the update in line with their new range of Windows Phones which all come with Mango pre-built also. Users will receive a notification telling them when their update is available but the roll out of the update depends solely on your network provider. Microsoft have stated that they expect all current Windows Phones to receive the Mango update by the end of October. Read the rest of this entry

YAHOO! fires You-know-Who!

On Tuesday 6th Carol Bartz was let go as CEO of Yahoo. Bartz was a well-known force to be reckoned with and harsh CEO with her constant use of profanities and shrewd frankness when dealing with people. The fiery CEO was informed of the Board’s decision to let her go over the phone which many have described as a very under-handed and cowardly way of dismissing someone. Bartz informed the staff of Yahoo via an email describing how she had been let go – “I am very sad to tell you that I’ve just been fired over the phone by Yahoo’s Chairman of the Board. It has been my pleasure to work with all of you and I wish you only the best going forward.” Read the rest of this entry
