Adobe Abandons Flash
In a move long predicted by Steve Jobs, Adobe admits defeat to HTML5 and will cease development of its Flash player for mobile devices. On Wednesday 9thNovember, Adobe confirmed the rumours that they will no longer develop their Flash player for mobile browsers. The news comes as part of a shakeup at Adobe which will see the company scale back on the development of some products and even consider leasing software in a bid to change the company’s current situation. The news however comes as no surprise to Apple – Jobs since the first launch of the iPhone in 2007 stated that, “Flash was created during the PC era – for PCs and mice.” Jobs decided that the future of mobile browsing lay in HTML5 which it seems to have taken Adobe years to agree with and bow down in defeat. Steve Jobs Steps Down as CEO
On Wednesday 24th August, Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs’ resignation became the hot topic and trending subject on various news sites and Twitter Feeds. The news came via an official press release from Apple stating that, “Steve Jobs has resigned as Chief Executive Officer, and the Board has named Tim Cook, previously Apple’s Chief Operating Officer, as the company’s new CEO. Jobs has been elected Chairman of the Board and Cook will join the Board, effective immediately.” It did not take long for the public to start making comment on what many have claimed to be the biggest change to Apple since the company was first set up in 1977. The majority of the public were shocked to hear the news of Jobs’ decision to leave the company and many took to Twitter to wish Jobs all the best as many took his ill-health to be one of the reasons for his departure.
Bold Changes in the Tech World
This last week has seen great change in the IT sector with Google’s acquirement of Motorola Mobility and HP’s decision to end its phone and tablet production. The news of Google’s latest and most influential buy came on Monday 15thAugust. The tech giant purchased Motorola Mobility for the hefty sum of $12.5 Billion. This latest acquisition of Google signals change in the patent market as Google were losing out to companies such as Apple and receiving various patent lawsuits from its smartphone rival. With Google’s purchase of Motorola Mobility the company has gained access to around 15,000 patents which will now give Google a significant upper hand in the smartphone market and allow the company’s Android devices provide stiff competition to Apple’s iPhone also.
