With the Christmas season officially upon us and budget not far away, people have become a lot more wary on how much they spend and can budget for the Christmas holidays. Unfortunately, there are many out there that realise the shoppers of today are conscious of spending too much and are always in search of a good deal or offer. Hackers and scammers have utilised this need for a good bargain and have exploited it for their own gain. Scams and Hacks plague the news both locally and nationally with users hearing more and more of the importance of protecting one’s data and staying safe online. But how does one do this? How can we ensure that we are safe online and protected from these various scams, etc.? The growing threat of the Hacker
With the numerous reports and hacker activity that has been happening lately it is not hard to see that governments are concerned with these acts of cyber terrorism. Hacker groups like Anonymous and the recently disbanded LulzSec have caused havoc in the cyber community and remain a constant headache to many government and corporate websites. PSN Update – Hacker’s Caught?
It has surfaced recently that the hacker group Anonymous were behind the PSN outage of last April. It has been stated that the Spanish police have apprehended members of the group in which they have found servers and other various equipment which suggest these individuals were part of the hack which cost Sony $173 Million in damages.
Blogs and websites alike have provided these same details but not much else is known at this time but more shall be revealed as the week progresses. It is believed that the individuals apprehended were also involved in various hacks on government and business websites also. No names have been released at present and no charges have been made public.
Also in other hacker related news, other gaming and governmental sites have suffered security breaches with hacker groups like LulzSec accepting responsibility for the recent Nintendo and even NHS cyber attacks. The news comes as no surprise and investigations are underway with both gaming companies and various other companies looking at stepping up their online security and pursuing these hackers to try to put a stop to these endless amount of cyber onslaughts
