A Tribute to the Man behind the Apple
On the 5thOctober 2011, Steve Jobs passed away surrounded by his close family. People from around the globe commented on the loss of Jobs and many stated that the world lost a technological genius that day. Steve Jobs has only recently stepped down as CEO of Apple which many believed was due to his on-going battle with pancreatic cancer. There have been various tributes made to Steve Jobs which look back on his time with Apple and the amazing inventions and ideas he helped to bring about and change the way in which we perceive and understand technology today. Steve Jobs co-founded Apple in 1976 with his colleagues Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne. For Steve, Apple was all about trying something different and more original. Instead of focusing on what would sell and make millions, Jobs focused on what people needed and found them solutions to the problems which faced making technology an intricate part of the average person’s day to day life. World Wide Web turns 20!
The World Wide Web or WWW as we more commonly know it as – turned 20 on the 6th August 2011. The World Wide Web or W3 Project began back in the late 80’s under Tim Berners-Lee. Berners-Lee developed the project as a way of sharing information through the internet. In 1990 Berners-Lee had developed all the necessary components of the Web as we know it – HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol), HTML (HyperText Markup Language) and the first Web Browser (named WorldWideWeb). With these components and his use of links Berners Lee developed the first ever public website in 1991. The website was a summary of the project and contained a message from Tim Berners-Lee on 6thAugust stating that the “World Wide Web Project aims to allow links to information anywhere” and also “Collaborators welcome!” Read the rest of this entry
SPAM ALERT: fighting back against Spammers
Scams and Hacks plague the news both locally and nationally with users hearing more and more of the importance of protecting one’s data and staying safe online. But how does one do this? How can we ensure that we are safe online and protected from these various scams, etc.? There is no definite answer to this question but there are various precautions and actions one can take in order to help make sure you have a safer online experience. As mentioned in previous articles it is important to have knowledge on what is going on in the cyber community and as the phrase goes: ‘knowledge is power’. The growing threat of the Hacker
With the numerous reports and hacker activity that has been happening lately it is not hard to see that governments are concerned with these acts of cyber terrorism. Hacker groups like Anonymous and the recently disbanded LulzSec have caused havoc in the cyber community and remain a constant headache to many government and corporate websites. These hacker groups pride themselves in exposing the faults of various corporations and they have even launched cyber attacks against military and government by acquiring various data and hacking into countless numbers of official websites. Meet the man who claims he owns 50% of Facebook (Donegal Post Article 25/05/11)
Paul Ceglia, the latest in the line of individuals looking for a pay-out from Facebook claims that he has a written contract which Zuckerberg had signed in 2003 stating Ceglia as 50% owner of “the facebook” project in exchange for funding its development. The allegations brought against Zuckerberg are brought 6 years after the breach of the contract but remain within the statute of limitations in New York as according to DLA Piper who are taking the case against Zuckerberg on behalf of Ceglia. The claims were made early in 2010 but were not taken too seriously by the company with Facebook claiming the accusations as nothing more than farce. Read the rest of this entry
